Gas prices in the Chicago area may increase after a tornado narrowly missed a major ExxonMobil refinery, causing a power outage. Gasoline futures for the region rose by about 11 cents per gallon, while wholesale futures for Chicago were up by 4 cents per gallon. The Joliet refinery is expected to take a few days to return to normal production. If there is damage, gasoline will have to be shipped from the Gulf Coast via pipeline, which could take a couple of weeks. Prices are expected to rise at Chicago stations soon.
